Our History

Carolina Pines (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

The notion that there could and should be a Links, Inc. Chapter in the Rowan-Cabarrus community began as a meeting of the minds of Barbara Wilson Propst, Maya Jones and Diamond Staton-Williams. In October of 2020, the three of them began to think of change makers in their own communities, friends of theirs who were already service minded and have impacted their communities as individuals. The ladies began making their individual lists.

By December 2020, these three brainchildren had compiled a list of more than 40 women and had begun to reach out to each individual with one goal in mind, and that was to bring together an energized, service minded group of friends together to begin the process.

On December 12, 2020, a letter of interest was mailed to the National Headquarters of The Links, Incorporated, Chapter Establishment expressing interest in establishing a chapter in the Southern Area region representing the Cabarrus and Rowan counties in North Carolina.

On January 31, 2021, Barbara Propst reached out, through email, to the National Headquarters of The Links, Incorporated, Chapter Establishment expressing their interest in forming a chapter of The Links, Incorporated to follow up on the mailed correspondences and confirm receipt of the letter of interest.

On March 13, 2021, National Headquarters confirmed receipt of our first set of required materials and as we awaited a response, we continued to work in our community preparing for the next steps.

The group’s dedication and commitment to serving the Rowan-Cabarrus communities were noted and the ladies were granted formal designation as an Interest Group of The Links, Incorporated on September 18, 2021, through a formal letter from Links, Incorporated.

Our Journey Begins

From the moment the women were designated as an interest group they began to work diligently to meet the requirements set out by National Headquarters as well as bond through various service activities such as adopting families for Christmas and providing gifts to meet the individual families’ needs, providing virtual reading services for school-aged children and applying for local grants to serve to elderly population.

On February 26, 2022, in anticipation of chapter elect status, a special election was held to officially elect the Chapter name, membership slate and executive committee. On March 8, 2022, the thirty-four sedulous women making up the membership slate were granted Chapter-Elect Status as the Carolina Pines (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
